For you die-hard learners who are serious about keeping your mind and body strong, a study from the University College London suggests that you’ll have a better success rate if you keep your natural teeth. Read on to learn more.
Slowing Mind and Body Linked to Tooth Loss
A study from the University College London has found that memory and walking speeds are linked to the number of natural pearly whites in your mouth. The study, published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, suggests that people who no longer had their own natural teeth walked 10% slower and had 10% worse memory than those who still have their natural teeth at age 60-74.
These findings took into account several factors that might have influenced the outcome of the study, such as health problems, health behavior, depression, smoking and drinking habits, and even socioeconomic status. No matter the circumstance, subjects who had lost all of their teeth were more likely to have difficulty moving and remembering things.
Prevent Tooth Loss
A common misconception is that tooth loss is inevitable as we age. This is simply not true. Your teeth can last a lifetime if cared for properly. Good oral hygiene habits and a healthy diet are critical for tooth loss prevention. However, even with the healthiest lifestyles, problems can still arise that require additional care to prevent the loss of a tooth.
Schmakel Smile Design offers a wide range of dental services that can save your natural teeth, including fillings, root canals, gum disease treatment, and much more. Call us at 419-841-9494 or contact us online today to schedule an appointment.
